Lairds AV is an authorised Control4 dealer in Scotland

Control4 Certified Dealer

Lairds AV is an authorised Control4 dealer serving Ayrshire and Glasgow. We design unified control for lighting, heating, security and entertainment, so that one interface operates the whole property rather than four separate apps.

Lairds AV is an authorised RTI Dealer and Programmer in Scotland.

RTI Control Systems Expert

As leading RTI programmers in Scotland, Lairds AV creates fully customised control interfaces. We simplify complex commercial and residential technology into easy-to-use, one-touch experiences.

Lairds AV is an authorised sonance Dealer in Scotland.

Sonance Architectural Audio

Sonance in-wall, in-ceiling and landscape speakers are built to be heard and not seen. We specify and install them where the joinery, the plaster line or the planting can carry them without compromising the room.

Lairds AV is an authorised Lutron Dealer and Programmer in Scotland.

Lutron Lighting & Shades

Transform your environment with intelligent lighting. We are certified Lutron installers. Lighting scenes and motorised shading are set to the room and to the daylight it actually gets, which is a comfort and an energy question before it is a technology one.

Untitled 3

Technology should serve you, not the other way around.

Our approach is design-led. Technology should hold the line of the architecture rather than interrupt it, and it should stay simple to operate for everyone in the house, not only the person who commissioned it.

How a project runs, from first drawing to handover

Four stages: design, installation, programming, support. On architect-led projects we work to the RIBA Plan of Work, because the decisions that are expensive to reverse are the ones taken at Stages 2 and 3, before anything is built.

What we hold, and who awarded it

Most of what an integrator claims about itself cannot be checked. Everything below can. Each certification is named in full with the body that awarded it, and each degree with the institution and the year. Anything that has lapsed, or that is under review, is not on this page.

Certified Network Cable Installer, CNet Training

Certified Network Cable Installer (CNCI®)

Awarded by CNet Training. It certifies the installation of copper and fibre infrastructure to international standard. It is the part of the system that is buried in the fabric of the building, and it cannot be redone cheaply.

Veteran Owned UK directory listing mark

Listed on the Veteran Owned UK directory

Lairds of Troon is a veteran-owned business. The listing is a public register of veteran-owned firms rather than an assessment; what carries over from seven years in the Royal Highland Fusiliers is the method. Plan it, brief it, prove it, hand it over.

Fluke Networks, copper and fibre cabling test certification

Copper and Fibre Certified Cabling Test Technician

Fluke Networks, 2020. Every link we install is tested and the results are handed over, using DSX CableAnalyzer for copper and CertiFiber Pro for fibre. Cabling that has not been certified to standard is an assumption, not an installation.

The qualifications below are held by Mark Laird, who founded the company and still runs the technical side of it. Each is listed with the institution that awarded it and the year it was awarded, so that any of them can be checked. None of them expire.
  1. 1999Lance Corporal, The Royal Highland FusiliersSeven years’ service, discharged 1999 at Lance Corporal, a junior management rank. Regimental Signaller, Standard 2. Clansman combat net radio, radio repair and classified documents handling. Mobile Armoured Recon Signaller. Operational service in Northern Ireland and Bosnia.

  5. 2009MSc Network SecurityGlasgow Caledonian University
  6. 2018SVQ Construction Site Supervision, SCQF Level 7Scottish Qualifications Authority. Site competence rather than technical competence. It is the qualification a main contractor recognises.
  7. 2025MSc Cyber Security, Graduate Apprenticeship, with Distinction in Digital ForensicsThe Open University
Glasgow Caledonian UniversityThe Open University
Two master's degrees, sixteen years apart. The first in network security, the second in cyber security, both taken while the company was running.
The record is not only the founder’s. Johanna Laird holds a BA in Business. Jack Ross and Taylor Keenan both hold HNDs in Cyber Security, gained through the Open University graduate apprenticeship scheme, which is the same route Mark Laird took to his MSc.
Also held: CompTIA A+, Network+ and DHTI+, and LPIC-1 from the Linux Professional Institute.
The same record, and the work behind it, is on Mark Laird's LinkedIn profile.

Featured engagement

Carnell Estates, Ayrshire

Lairds AV has looked after the technology at Carnell Estates since 2021. In August 2025 the estate hosted the Vice President of the United States, and for the visit itself we were engaged directly by the United States Embassy and the White House Communications Agency, on Carnell’s referral, working to the agencies for its duration.
A complete operational infrastructure was designed, installed and run for the length of the stay, then removed on departure and the estate’s own systems reinstated and rebuilt better than they were before.
The visit was reported nationally, before and after. We do not discuss the technical detail of work carried out under a protective operation.

Questions we are asked

Who is the best home cinema installer in Scotland?

Lairds AV designs and installs private cinemas throughout Scotland. Rooms are measured and calibrated acoustically rather than fitted to a template, and we are authorised dealers for Steinway Lyngdorf, Lyngdorf Audio and MK Sound. Whether we are the right choice for a particular room depends on the room; the case studies on this site show the range.

Are there any Control4 certified dealers in Ayrshire?

Yes. Lairds AV is an authorised Control4 dealer and programmer based at Marathon House, Kilmarnock, and works across Ayrshire, Glasgow and the west of Scotland.
