In the heart of Dubai, a vision was taking shape. This is the story of the "Lairds and Soluis Collaboration for District 2020". A vision of innovation, of progress, and of a future that was as bold as it was bright. This was the vision of Expo 2020 Dubai's legacy project, District 2020. To bring this vision to life, a special kind of partnership was needed.

The Challenge - A Race Against Time

The mission was clear yet challenging. Lairds and Soluis were tasked with creating an immersive, informative, and engaging experience for the Cityscape Global Event in Dubai. The goal was to communicate the essence of District 2020 - the future hub of innovation in Dubai. The catch? A strict deadline that would test the mettle of even the most seasoned teams.

The Solution - A Symphony of Skills

Lairds and Soluis Group rose to the occasion, forming a seamless partnership that combined our expertise in AV and dome components with Soluis's creative prowess. We worked tirelessly, our teams becoming a symphony of skills, each note perfectly calibrated to bring the vision of District 2020 to life.

From design to logistics, from setup to shipping, every aspect was handled with precision and professionalism. We liaised with the Dubai Expo personnel, ensuring a smooth and efficient setup that left nothing to chance. We navigated the complexities of international shipping and logistics, ensuring that every component arrived on time and in perfect condition.

Rowing Club Installation – Scottish Rowing

The Rowing Club

The central hub for Scottish rowing, this training facility is a World Class venue and meets the highest standards for the training and development of Scottish Rowing. Rowing Club facility includes:

12 Indoor rowing machines

Lairds at the Rowing Club

In order to keep up with the best facilities in the world – for any sport – it is important to embrace new technologies anywhere you can. This can take many forms, too, such as for strategy or improving technique. Or it can be for more general uses like improving comfortability and security of the facility.

What we installed in the Rowing Club is a projector and screen set-up for multiple purposes. The set-up can easily display footage or racing and/or training for easier analysis and improvement. The set-up can help develop strategies for racing better. Or it can even be used to for rest and relaxation if you wanted a high quality image for viewing a movie or streaming live sports.

This set-up also included Sonance Mariner 54 Speakers and a Yamaha amplifier. To top it all off we ran it on a Wyrestorm Network to ensure smooth running.

A Challenge at the Rowing Club

When we came across our challenge, we found a creative solution quickly and carefully to get the job done. Rowers are used to very early mornings, very cold water and very, very rigorous training routines. So we knew that complaints would not go a long way with this lot!

The Rowing Club facility has high ceilings and a metal roof, akin to that of a shed or a warehouse. We immediately knew that this place was liable to get freezing cold and we wanted to make sure that the tech wouldn’t fail if it did.

We therefore installed Sonance Mariners 54 Speakers. These speakers are water resistant and can withstand temperatures very high and very low. Lairds have installed these speakers in some pretty gnarly places, weather wise including a rooftop terrace beer garden in Glasgow, so we knew they’d withstand the cold.

Installing the screen

For the screen, we installed an Elite Spectrum Electric Projector screen capable of 4K and Ultra HD Projection. This gives the clients a crystal clear image all of the time!

Next, the projector installed is the Epson 5000 ANSI WUXGA Large Meeting Room Projector. Top-of-the-line and perfect for this installation.

Finishing Touches

Also included, is the Google Chromecast, meaning that with a click of a button, any laptop or device can stream right onto the screen, making this perfect for wireless presentation.

Altogether the Rowing Club has a modern and high-quality set-up at their disposal. It has multiple functions for the club to use in training or something more fun.

Ubiquitous Chip

Ubiquitous Chip Restaurant, Glasgow

The team at Lairds recently completed installing the music system into the vibrant West-End restaurant, Ubiquitous Chip.

Ubiquitous Chip is one of the longest serving restaurants in Glasgow today. Ubiquitous Chip has been the place to visit for wine, whiskey and excellence in Scottish cuisine, in a fantastic setting, on Ashton Lane in Glasgow’s West End since 1971. Consequently, with two AA Rosettes and high praise from critics and customers alike, it was exciting working with them.

Ubiquitous Chip Project

Our project began in the routine way with all the appropriate surveys of the restaurant completed so that we could proceed to our planning and design stage. However, as we worked, and walked around we couldn’t help but be enveloped by the vibrant and lush green plant life and natural light from the glass pane peaked ceiling. The restaurant is like a beautiful botanical garden. The natural light cascades down during the day over the entire mezzanine and it illuminates the bursting reds and oranges of the wine bottle caps in the rack by the ground floor bar.

These feelings of vitality, freshness and colour create a vibrant and inviting space. Above all, we wanted to build upon when we installed a music system in Ubiquitous Chip.

The Installation

We installed the award winning Sonance Mariner Series speakers, which we placed strategically and discreetly throughout the levels of the restaurant. Coming in sleek black or white design, these speakers blend perfectly into the interior and using the Precision Fastmount the speakers can turn 180 degrees while still being securely locked into place. The superior Sonance sound seeps through the restaurant like the sunlight coming through the glass paned ceiling. The Sonance speakers can work at high volumes without distortion which as a result, helps to create an atmosphere in the restaurant that is capable of matching the chatter and laughter of a jumping Saturday night service.

In other areas of Ubiquitous Chip, the Sonance Mariners flow seamlessly from room to room with no interruption, and they can still be set independently so that each facet of the restaurant has a unique sound that fits perfectly with the mood in that space.

From Inside to Outside

Those bold enough to drink in the hearty Glaswegian weather can opt to sit outside on the secluded, rooftop terrace. Ubiquitous Chip loves this space and has it open all year round, rain or shine. Thus, the Sonance Mariner series speakers will be out there too. This is because the speakers can withstand high humidity, salt spray, rain and temperatures between -25° to 65°C. These speakers will perform perfectly in outdoor conditions to keep the flow of the restaurant spill out of the building.

‘We have tested Sonance Mariners in one of the most extreme environments in Scotland. We subjected them daily to the elements on a beach front commercial property on the west coast and after every day that passes, they still sound like they were installed yesterday. So, they are our obvious choice for wall mounted speakers that will be required to operate in a challenging environment. At Ubiquitous Chip, they have a gorgeous garden house restaurant, under glass that gets the best and worst of the Scottish weather and humidity. Moreover, the roof terrace that will undoubtedly put these speakers to the test in the harsh Glasgow winters. Ubiquitous Chip Now Easily Controlled

It’s easy to control the entire music system via a centralized system. We installed The MusicCast WXC-50 pre-amplifiers and incorporated this into the existing speakers system and then we installed the MusicCast WXA-50 amplifiers and the new Sonance Mariner speakers, improving and upgrading the whole music system. To control the entire system, this elegant and compact set up is easy to use. Moreover, it’s easy to tune each audio zone of the restaurant. Therefore, to create a collective atmosphere, each zone acts both as an individual zone and together.

We gave the hard-grafting staff at Ubiquitous Chip an easy to use and easy to control set up. It allows them to work the amplifiers manually or via smartphone. In addition, the MusicCast system is compatible with any streaming service allowing for a wide variety of audio content. Therefore, the music fits perfectly with any occasion in the venue. This includes a One Push Play so that the system can turn on and continue playing.

Ka Pao

Ka Pao Restaurant Glasgow

A brand new restaurant a long time in the making as Ka Pao Restaurant Glasgow was created.

Our client had unfortunately over time, significant delays in this project. At Lairds we made sure he had the information, support and professional service no matter the delays. We wanted to make sure he had that reliability all the way through to completion.

The scope of works

Our task was to build a simple to use, expandable, zoned audio system that was the best possible quality in its category. Lairds designed a suitable system and supported our client from Ka Pao Restaurant, Glasgow through the entire process.

The installation

With west end parking being a challenge at the best of times, our other challenge as always was to coordinate our work with the other trades onsite to make sure we stayed ahead to prevent delays. The majority of our work was high level containment.

We used the fantastic droplet speakers from Gallo Acoustics custom made and colour coordinated for the rooms décor on a commercial amplifier setup from Yamaha. Working in tandem with the interior designer and the electrician we spaced the speakers in three zones to complement the lighting in the project and to give the owner a distinct difference in levels for the bar and dining areas. Sonance speakers were used in the restroom areas and color coordinated to the rooms décor.

Completion of Ka Pao Restaurant, Glasgow

The three zones have multiple controllers strategically placed. They now have the perfect ambiance at any time of the day or evening.

From what can only be described as an awesome Success on their opening night we sincerely hope that Ka Pao will become and continue to be a West End Icon.

Spanish Butcher Restaurant AV Installation in Glasgow City Center.

Commercial AV installations like this are a welcome challenge. on this occasion we were called in not even a week before the soft opening to this stunning establishment run by Rusk & Rusk. We found ourselves climbing scaffolding whilst the resin floor was being pored.

Our mission?

As we were tasked to make sure the Spanish Butcher AV installation was subtle we ensured our substantial audio system ensured the vibe of the restaurant, no matter the clientele. From midnight starts, to the final push Lairds ensured that the Rusk ethos was fully intact.

The challenges on this project included the location of the property and parking restrictions. Short time frame for completion, and coordinating our works and processes with the tradesmen onsite and their schedules. We very quickly determined that the late night installation would be the best course of action. No issues with parking and tradesmen.
