Gaucho, Edinburgh: zoned audio and a network for an Argentine steakhouse

Gaucho Edinburgh has a main dining room, a bar and private dining rooms, and an interior that does most of the talking. Lairds installed multi-zone audio on Sonance pendant speakers and Cloud amplifiers, and a wireless network for the AV system and guest Wi-Fi, in 2020.

The building

Gaucho Edinburgh is an Argentine steakhouse in the centre of the city, with a main dining room, a bar and private dining rooms. The interior does a lot of the work, so anything we installed had to sit inside it quietly.

The brief was audio across the whole venue, set up so that each area could run at its own level and its own mood, along with a network able to carry both the AV system and guest Wi-Fi.

What we designed

The room carries a strong look of its own, so more speakers, or larger ones, was never going to be the answer. Pendant speakers from the Sonance Professional Series gave the coverage without drawing the eye; they read as part of the ceiling rather than as equipment. Cloud multi-zone amplifiers give floor staff direct control of each area, so the bar can run at volume while a private dining room stays quiet.

Staff set the level and the source for each area from one place and change it through the day as the room changes: quieter over lunch service, louder at the bar in the evening. The wireless network carries the AV system and the guests’ Wi-Fi.

The new AV system installed by Lairds AV has truly transformed the atmosphere of Gaucho. From the vibrant bar area to the cosy dining spaces, we now have complete control over the ambiance, making every dining experience special.
