The building
Material Source Studio occupies a city-centre building on West George Street in Glasgow, a studio and events space for the design community: a theatre for talks, presentation rooms, meeting rooms and the space for conferences and CPD sessions. The people who use it look at buildings for a living, so the technology had to be as considered as the materials on the walls, and it had to work for an audience without a technician in the room.
What we designed
Audio runs through the whole property on Sonance loudspeakers, zoned so a presentation in one room does not spill into a conversation in the next. LED video walls and large screens carry the presentations and the design content; Yamaha professional audio and Sennheiser microphones handle talks and panel events; and the meeting rooms are equipped for video conferencing. Lutron controls the lighting and the blinds, so a room can go from showroom to presentation at a touch.
Lairds provides ongoing technical support to the studio. For a space that hosts a different event most weeks, that matters as much as the installation. The same approach applies to the commercial spaces we design and install across Scotland.
