Home cinema renovation, East Ayrshire: Lyngdorf, M&K and Sonance in a family cinema room

A family in East Ayrshire, both parents keen on music and design, asked Lairds one question: what would make this room special? The answer was a large screen on an articulated mount, M&K on-wall speakers, two Sonance subwoofers under the floor, a Lyngdorf streaming amplifier, acoustic panelling and a custom-built suite.

The room

The house is in East Ayrshire. The family wanted a cinema room that looked like part of the home rather than a bolt-on: a modern design to match the house, sound that would satisfy a music lover, and lighting that could change the mood for a film. The room had its own acoustic problems and not much space to spare, so the design had to solve both.

What we designed

Picture comes from a large flat screen on a Future Automation articulated wall mount with an in-wall box, so the screen sits flush and can be pulled out and angled when needed. Sound is two M&K MP150 on-wall loudspeakers, two Sonance BPS8 bandpass subwoofers built under the floor with their bandpass connectors, a Sonance DSP2-150 MKII amplifier for the subwoofers and a Lyngdorf TDAI-1120 streaming amplifier at the heart of it.

Acoustic panelling tames the room, the seating is a custom-built suite by Infinity, and Philips Hue lighting changes the scene. Ruckus Wi-Fi, and coax, speaker and Cat 6 cabling throughout, were installed as part of the same job, along with the joinery and building work, and the whole system was calibrated for video and audio before handover.

A cinema room with sound a musician is happy with, a screen that disappears into the wall when the lights are up, lighting scenes for a film or a game, and a network that keeps up. Designed, built, wired, calibrated and supported by Lairds.
