Ayrshire Hospice Autumn Ball, Seamill: running the technology for the Hospice’s biggest night
Seamill Hydro and the Ayrshire Hospice asked Lairds to take the whole technology side of the Hospice’s Autumn Ball at the Firth Pavilion, the venue we had designed and installed. We did, from the planning meetings to the roving camera, so the Hospice could concentrate on raising money.

The brief
The Autumn Ball is the Ayrshire Hospice’s biggest night of the year. It was held at the Firth Pavilion at Seamill Hydro, and we know that building better than anyone: Lairds designed and installed its technology, from the RTI control to the zoned audio, video distribution, digital signage, colour-mixing LED lighting and the PA with its Logic Systems loudspeakers and Allen & Heath digital desk. The hotel’s management and the Hospice asked whether we would run all of it for the evening. We considered it an honour and said yes.
What we did
We started by giving the Hospice team the full tour of the Pavilion so that they could plan the night around what the room could do. Then we took the entire technology requirement off their hands: liaising with them beforehand, building the images and graphics for the digital signage, the music, the auction, the video displays, and a roving HD camera on the night. The Pavilion’s live-streaming, outdoor entertainment and mobile video platforms were all put to use. We worked with the bands and the other suppliers so that each of them had what they needed, and we left the Hydro’s own staff to do what they do best.
The result
The event ran the way we wanted it to, which is to say that nobody noticed the technology, and the Hospice was relieved of the one part of organising a ball that they should not have to think about. The money raised went where it was meant to.
