The Waterside Hotel, West Kilbride: AV, fault finding and maintenance for a coastal wedding hotel

The Waterside sits on the shore at West Kilbride, a wedding and events hotel with a restaurant, bar and terrace looking across the Firth of Clyde. Lairds provide the technical and AV services: finding and fixing faults in what was there, and keeping it working through the season.

The brief

A hotel that hosts weddings most weekends cannot have the sound fail during a speech or the screens go blank before a first dance. The Waterside had audio and video across its function spaces, restaurant and bar, and by the time Lairds were working with SimpsInns it needed someone to take responsibility for all of it. This was the third of the group’s venues we took on.

What we did

The work at The Waterside is technical rather than showpiece. We surveyed the systems as found, found the faults that had been worked around and fixed them properly, and put the venue on a maintenance arrangement so that the staff have one number to call and problems are dealt with before a function rather than during one.

The result

Sound and screens that the wedding coordinators can rely on, and a hotel that calls the same engineers who look after the rest of the group. For a venue like this that is the point: nobody at a wedding should ever notice the technology.
