A specification you could hand to any installer

What the equipment is, why it was chosen, and what it comes to – written down, so the price can be argued with on its merits.

A written specification and a costed system: what the equipment is, why each piece was chosen, and what the whole thing comes to. It is a document you could hand to another installer and have them price the same job – which is the point of writing it down properly.

Most quotes in this trade are a list of boxes and a number at the bottom. That makes it impossible to compare two of them, and impossible to tell which corner has been cut. A specification says what the system has to achieve and what has been chosen to achieve it, so the price can be argued with on its merits.

What the specification covers

  • The equipment, namedMake and model, not “premium amplifier” – so it can be checked and compared.
  • Why each choice was madeWhat the room, the usage or the building fabric demanded, and what was ruled out.
  • The infrastructure underneathCabling, containment, network and power – the part that is expensive to change later and invisible when done well.
  • What it costs, itemisedEquipment, installation and commissioning separated, so you can see where the money goes.

What it costs

Nothing is charged on this page. We confirm the scope with you first, then invoice.

System Quote — the system specified and costed in writing£299 plus VAT

If the room has not been laid out yet, a Design Layout usually comes first – there is little point specifying kit for positions nobody has settled.

Questions about the System Quote

How is this different from a free quote?

A free quote prices a job someone has already decided on. This decides the job: it works out what the system has to do, what will achieve it, and what that costs, and writes down the reasoning. If you already know exactly what you want installed, ask us for a straight quote instead and save the fee.

Can I take the specification elsewhere?

Yes, and some people do. It names equipment and explains choices precisely so another installer can price the same scope. We would rather write something genuinely useful than something designed to trap you.

Do I need a site visit first?

Not always. For a single room with known dimensions we can usually specify from plans, photographs and a conversation. Anything whole-house, anything in a listed or solid-wall building, and anything where cable routes are uncertain needs a survey, and we will say so before taking the fee.

Does the fee come off the installation?

If you go ahead with us on the specified work, yes – it is credited against the project. If you do not, you keep a document you paid a fair price for. We will confirm that in writing before invoicing.

What if the costs come back higher than I expected?

Then you have found that out on paper rather than halfway through a build, which is the cheapest moment to find it out. We will show you what drives the number and where it can sensibly come down – usually phasing, rather than quietly specifying weaker equipment.
